She Speaks through her silence...

Select Language
Shree Bhakti Maa - "Mauni Mai"

A living example of karma, jnana, bhakti, and raja yoga; Mauni Mai who adopted the vow of silence (mauna since 60 years) at an early age by the spiritual directions of Sri Neem Karoli Baba "Maharaj Ji", maa communicates by writing on a slate that she always carries with her; though cryptic and pithy the notaions on the slate are heavy in meaning and depth.

At 90 years of age (25 Dec 2011), she is full of energy and blessings for all devotees in India and abroad.

Self Realization by Mauna Sadhna (Silence Meditation)

According to Mauni Mai -
"The Vag-Indriya (organ of speech) distracts the mind and lot of energy is wasted in useless talking. It keeps the mind always Bahirmukha (outgoing) and makes a person unspiritual."

The Sanskrit word 'mouna' means 'silence', and 'antar' means 'inner'. Therefore, the English name of this practice is 'Inner Silence' and it is a great spiritual practice designed to make the practitioner aware of the inner silence as well as the inner noise which generally prevents one from knowing the silence.

The word mouna, or silence, is derived from the Sanskrit root "mun" which means to measure. It is said that silence is god, power, the living force, the only reality, the soul, peace, strength, goal, aim and purpose of our existence. The system of mouna is not only to stop talking but to have better control over the expressions of the senses.

Maa's Guru : Sri Neem Karoli Baba Maharajji

Sri Neem Karoli Baba "Maharaj Ji", one of the greatest saints of the 20th century is the guru of "Mauni Maa". Maharaj ji established at least 108 temples, fed millions of people, performed what can be called Miracles, influenced current American and Indian society, brought grace into the lives of countless suffering people, and all the while remained out of the "public eye."

It is believed that by the time Maharaj ji was 17 years old He knew EVERYTHING. This is to be taken to mean a knowing that is actually incomprehensible to you and me. A knowing that is all. The knowing of Bhagvan. The knowing of God.

Maharaj Ji saw exceptional devotion in Bhakti Maa" towards Krshna, Bhagwat Gita and Guru Bhakti; Pujya Gurudev further tested her patience, devotion and Guru Bhakti by various methods before giving her spiritual guidance. To test Maa's abilities, Maharaj Ji publicly insulting her, gave her tough Bhakti Yoga Sadhnas, but Maa's stand as still as Himalayas in all unspoken spiritual sadhna's. She even use to wake up 3.00 am in night, take a bath at chilled water in Nainital, cross 10 km through dense jungle and funeral land to reach Maharaj Ji's temple at Bhumiadhar for Puja, cleaning of and Guru Service.

MAHARAJ JI TESTED HER BHAKTI FOR MANY YEARS, WITH MANY SMALL AND BIG "MAYA" TEST. Finally, many years before taking Samadhi, once day Maharaj Ji asked Maa to go beyond Sadhna and Guru Seva, Maharaj Ji ask Bhakti Maa to devote herself to the whole society, open an Ashram (Bhakti Dham) and take a vow to be silence.

MAHARAJ JI GAVE HER THE NAME "BHAKTI"
